Belgrade to Sign Heat Pipeline Construction Deal With Chinese Company - Mayor

Belgrade mayor Sinisa Mali said the city government expects to sign in the coming days a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company for the construction of aheatpipeline with an estimated cost of 207 million euro ($230.6 million).

The investment will pay off for a period of five or six years and will allow the usage of hot water for the district heating needs of Belgrade, Mali said during the an energy conference in Belgrade, as quoted in a statement by the city government on Monday.

In April, the Belgrade City Assembly said it has adopted a detailed regulation plan for the construction of a heating pipeline worth an estimated 160 million euro.

The financing of the 28 km pipeline connecting Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power generation complex and Novi Beograd thermal power plant could be ensured through a public-private partnership, a loan, or funds from the profit of state-owned utility Beogradske elektrane, the chairman of Belgrade City Assembly, Nikola Nikodijevic, said back in April.

TENT comprises the Nikola Tesla A, Nikola Tesla B, Morava and Kolubara coal-fired power plants with a combined installed capacity of 3,286 MW.
